Getting ready for Summer- April essentials!

The summer is already upon us, which means more and more time spent outdoors. Hopefully, it also means stocking up on sunscreen and various other skincare products. But most of us who lather on sunscreen onto our skin will overlook one essential spot on the body: the lips.

The Sun and UV rays can be very harsh on our lips… Signs of sun damage on the lips develop overtime as a result of excessive sun exposure over the years. The sun’s UV rays can impact the production of collagen on your lips which can result in the formation of wrinkles on and around the area as a sign of early aging and sun damage.
Well, I’m not trying to scare you but there are small things we can do to take precautions and I’m going to tell you all something about just those simple and effective tips for lip care and skin care today.. So let’s get started already!

How To Keep Your Luscious Pout

It is important to keep lips soft, smooth, hydrated and healthy during the summer to protect them from sun damage. The application of a lip balm and continually drinking water can help facilitate your protection against UV rays. However, do not just apply an SPF lip balm on sunny days — it is important to use the stuff every day, even if its cloudy — UV rays can get through a cloudy sky. Also, make sure to apply and reapply every day at least once every two hours.

Products For Healthy-Looking Lips


For sun protection, opt for a lip balm that has an indicated SPF 15 or higher to keep your lips smooth with long-lasting moisturization.

Lipsticks that are shiny or contain high gloss with little-to-no color are harmful to your lips because they can direct UV rays to the area. Lip gloss, like high-shine lipsticks, acts as a reflector for the sun’s ray and those without an SPF can increase your chances of damage.

Tip 1: If your lips become dry and start to peel, use some sugar and olive oil to exfoliate your skin and remove the accumulated dead skin cells.

Tip 2: Look for a lip product that has a base of , petroleum jelly, or paraffin. These products seal moisture and stay on your lips longer in comparison to thinner balms and glosses. 

Tip 3: Ditch the lip gloss and switch to a matte lip product with an SPF.

Tip 4: If you need to stick with lip gloss, apply a colored lipstick to your lips first and then add some shine. A colored lipstick with an SPF product is your best bet.

Tip 5: Opt for a lip gloss product with a minimum of SPF 30

Now I’ve these 5 lip balm and moisturizers that I’ve been using since quite a time and I’d like to review them for you as they seem so summer perfect to me!
1. Fuschia Tropical Alphonso Mango Lip balm:


I’ve been using this lip balm consistently for about 3 months now. It does an excellent work of a base before applying any lipstick over the lips. This lip balm hydrates the lips and hasn’t any tint so it works perfect as a base for me as it provides protection from exposure.
Fuschia products are SLS and Paraben free. They are handmade and are really good if you are into natural and organic products.

2. Revlon Street Wear Color Rich Lip balm


So this one from Revlon is another product that I prefer when it comes to Lip balms. Unlike the previous one, this lip balm has a light rosy pink tint to it and feels and tastes minty. It has a cooling effect on the lips and is definitely good if you’re going to be in the sun for long.
The Revlon Street Wear Color Rich Lip balm isn’t really long lasting so you might have to reapply it a couple of times in a day.

3. Island kiss range of lip moisturizers


So this one particularly is one of my favorites as it is loaded with things you exactly need to protect your lips this summer.
To start with, it has SPF 15 which is pretty good for the city weather these days. It is organic i.e, 100% natural so all the people who love organic products, this one might be one of the best bets for lip care ☺
This particular lip moisturizer contains ingredients like Mango Butter, Tropical Avocado, different natural oils and Natural organic color.
It has a cheeky berry tint which is close to pinkish red.
The Puerto Berry Blush Lip Moisturizer comes in a tube and is easy to apply. The lip tint is very glossy and might slide off your lips upon too much application.
However it holds on for a longer time than the products I earlier mentioned about.
This lip moisturizer leaves a glassy finish to your lips maybe because of the gloss but it looks amazing.
The island kiss range of lip moisturizers come in amazing packaging and are definitely a good investment on your lips.
There are other two variants in this range
Cherry Blossom Flores
which again contains Tropical kokum, Mango Butter and essential natural oils and natural color.
This variant has a Bunny pink tint though which is lighter than the Puerto Berry Blush.
It again is natural and comes with SPF15


The third variant in the Island kiss range is Alma Vanilla & Inges Lavender lip moisturizer
This one is a nude shade and this particular tint is called the “birth suit nude”


The island kiss moisturizer leaves your lips glossy. You’ll have to watch out in case you are using a matte lipstick over it. You can get these from Nykka (just in case!)


So these are few of my lip care products I am using this summer. I always make it a point to scrub my lips with sugar and a little honey which leaves them soft.


Now moving on towards skin care,

1. Exfoliate for clearer, smoother skin

What it does: Exfoliation removes dead, dulling skin debris to prevent congestion and improve hydration from toners and moisturizers.

When: Perform in the mornings prior to toner, moisturizer, SPF and make-up application.
Tip: Make-up will last longer on an exfoliated skin!

Don’t forget: After you exfoliate, follow with a hydrating body cream to seal in moisture, and always shield freshly exfoliated skin with an SPF.

2. Keep skin hydrated

How: Up your regimen’s level of hydration with intensive masques, perfect for use one to two times a week.

3. Make friends with H20

Why: Higher temperatures and more time outdoors leads to internal dehydration, which can result in headaches and dizzy spells!

What you can do: Eight 8-ounce glasses of plain, filtered water every day help maintain critical moisture balance of the body and skin, and assist in detoxification.
 Tip: If you drink caffeinated beverages, you must triple the amount of water you drink!

4. When in doubt, apply (and reapply!)

Why:  It’s not enough to just apply sunscreen.You must apply enough, and apply frequently.  

How much: A teaspoon for the face. For the body, about as much as would fill a shot glass.

How often: Re-apply every two hours. Tip: Stay out of the midday sun from mid-morning to late afternoon whenever you can.

Bonus: Today’s sophisticated formulas and technology let you select sun protection that works with your skin condition. That means you can choose oil-free, mattifying formulas, extra emollient formulas for dry skin, or chemical free formulas for sensitized, reactive skin. (I’ve discussed this in detail below)

5. Soothe over-exposed skin

What: You forgot the sunscreen, didn’t apply enough, or got caught in a sunny spell.
What’s next: Unfortunately, the damage is done, but you don’t have to suffer in pain! Super-soothing botanicals and cooling gels can help prevent peeling and reduce redness and inflammation.

How: Apply cooling balms generously over-exposed skin.

6. Repair and treat sun damage

What causes skin damage: UV light causes photoaging in the form of brown spots, coarse skin and wrinkles, whether you have burned your skin or not. When sunlight comes in contact with skin a cascade of damage results causing inflammation

What to do: A tan may be a popular summer look, but it indicates damage. Bombard your skin with age-fighting ingredients to help undo any damage that may occur, and to further protect it from the aging effects of UV.

There are a lot of skin care products that I want to recommend especially for the summer
But it depends on an individual’s skin type. Always prefer to consult a dermatologist before trying anything on your skin.
( I always make sure I’ve tried everything for a considerable period of time before I review it! )

So there are these skincare 2 products I’d like to review today

1. L’oreal Pearl Perfect facial foam and L’oreal White Perfect Milky foam


This was my first try at using face wash from L’oreal and they totally surprised me. These 2 variants of their face washes are inexpensive at 240 bucks and are quite a magic.
They totally cleanse your face leaving it feeling refreshing. The two might look similar but are quite different in terms of ingredients and the impact on skin.

The milky foam brightens your skin and the difference is visible soon after using it for a couple of times. You need a little amount of it and it foams really well and is sufficient for the face.
The best part about it is it doesn’t leave the skin feeling dry unlike other face washes I’ve used. At the same time it gives your face a rosy whitening feel which is quite a thing.

The other variant, Pearl perfect is infused with Vitamin C and Melanin Block that gives an instant glow to your face.
I swear by these 2 products from L’oreal and I recommend it to try them at least once.

2. The Nature’s Co. Foressence Guava Body Lotion


Summer means extra care for sun tanning and skin darkening but that doesn’t mean that we should miss on the body lotions. Body lotions are as essential in summers as they are in winters. The Nature’s Co guava body lotion is perfect for summer. It isn’t too greasy and gives a fresh feeling not that sticky slimy feel unlike other lotions. It suits all skin types and has a fruity smell of Guava to it.
The Nature’s Co believes in Natural products and this one especially from their range is quite a bomb.
The body lotion does a great job of moisturizing your skin. It perfectly hydrates the skin and also improves its texture which is what I really love about this product.
It comes in a handy bottle which makes it easy to apply and use. This body lotion nourishes your skin and makes your skin look pretty soft over time, I observed.
It hasn’t any side effects (at least in my case) and is a big thumbs up if you’re interested in natural, organic products.
The Nature’s Co has a range of other skin care products that are really good on the skin and I absolutely love this particular Guava Body Lotion.

Also, I realized that not talking about Sunscreen in that detail wouldn’t do justice to this post which is entirely on summer essentials so I’ve got a few tips about selecting sunscreen cream that is ideal for your face type (apart from the few parameters I mentioned earlier)

It’s ideal to select a sunscreen that blocks enough UV rays to adequately protect your skin type.
Use the Sun Protection Factor Guide to help determine your skin type and appropriate SPF. If you have very fair or sensitive skin, a history of skin cancer, or take photo-sensitizing medications, you may need a higher SPF.


Choose your sunscreen cream wisely.

So that’s about some points that you should take into consideration while stocking up summer care essentials and staying safe and keeping your skin healthy and nourished this Summer.
